About this event

The "Kora Taisha Okunchi (Autumn Festival)" will take place from Friday, October 9 to Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Kora Taisha Shrine in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture. This festival is the largest annual celebration of Kora Taisha, combining traditional Double Ninth Festival customs with an autumn harvest celebration. Located atop a 312-meter mountain, the shrine is approached by 131 stone steps leading up to the main hall. One of the highlights is the panoramic view of the Chikugo Plain from the 6th-floor observation deck of Kora Kaikan. In addition, the grand festival features yokyoku (Noh chanting) and sacred dance dedications, along with traditional performing arts designated as municipal cultural properties, such as the Korasan Lion Dance and Miimachi Furyu. During the festival period, the Grand Annual Festival will be conducted on October 9 from 10:30 AM, and the Worshipers' Association Grand Festival on October 10 from 10:30 AM. A Moon Viewing Festival is also scheduled for the 11th, though confirmation is required regarding public participation and starting times. Access is about a 10-minute drive from the Kyushu Expressway Kurume IC, or about a 30-minute walk after getting off at the "Miimachi" Nishitetsu bus stop. Free parking is available for approximately 300 vehicles across the mountain grounds (around 50 spaces near the shrine grounds). Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
