Japanese name:小郡市郷土史研究会 講演会「女芭蕉 知られざる俳人」

📅 Sat, Nov 14, 2026

📍 Ogori, Fukuoka

About this event

The lecture hosted by the Ogori Local History Research Society focuses on Shokyu-ni, a female haiku poet born in Tanushimaru who lived during the mid-Edo period. Leaving behind her husband and hometown, Shokyu-ni set out on a round-trip journey between Kyoto and Matsushima at the age of 58. Her travel diary, "Akikaze no Ki" (Record of Autumn Wind), is reminiscent of Matsuo Basho's "Oku no Hosomichi" (The Narrow Road to the Deep North). In this lecture, welcoming former Nishinippon Shimbun reporter Katsuhiko Miyahara as the speaker under the theme "'Female Basho': The Unknown Haiku Poet," participants will trace the life and footprints of Shokyu-ni's travels. You can appreciate Shokyu-ni's haiku journey while relating to the landscapes she encountered on her travels and the feelings embedded in her haiku. Non-members can also participate, and no reservations are required.
