About this event

Commemorating the National Excellent Town and Village Local Autonomy Award, Koga City will host the 67th Koga Citizen Ekiden Road Relay Race aiming to promote local sports, establish a healthy and cheerful community and sports lifestyle, and foster sound youth development. This tournament takes place on an approximately 11.3 km course with a total of 6 sections, starting from the Koga Civic Ground and finishing at Chidorigaike Park. Runners must be junior high school students or older, and teams are organized based on community centers/school district communities, businesses, schools, and civic groups within the city. A hometown runner quota is also established, allowing those who moved away or relocated to compete on local teams. One team consists of 6 runners and 3 or more traffic marshals, and alternate runners can also be registered. In fiscal year 2025 (Reiwa 7), 28 teams participated and enlivened the event. On the day, team reception, the opening ceremony, the first-half and second-half starts, and the closing ceremony will be held, with a relay race also held for those interested. In addition to group awards for the overall champion through 6th place, section awards, effort awards, and fighting spirit awards are established. The citizen comprehensive liability compensation insurance applies to injuries during the tournament.
