About this event
At Miyajidake Shrine, in late February and late October each year, a special moment arrives when Miyajidake and the Western Pure Land (Gokuraku Jodo) are connected by a single "Path of Light." During the "Festival of the Setting Sun" held during this period, the setting sun shines in a straight line along the shrine approach, creating a fantastical view as if a path of light has appeared. This phenomenon became famous nationwide as the "Path of Light" in a 2016 (Heisei 28) JAL commercial. During the festival, the "Festival of the Setting Sun Special Prayer Ceremony" is conducted, and special commemorative goshuin stamps are distributed. After the ceremony, visitors can view this mystical "Path of Light" from special seating. In addition, numbered tickets are distributed, and the "Path of Light Special Seating in front of the Ritual Hall" is available exclusively for those who participate in the special prayer service. Even without a numbered ticket, it is also possible to view the path of light formed over the sea as the sun sets toward Ainoshima from Miyaji Beach.
