About this event
This is the Saga performance of the popular outdoor musical "The Magic of the Blue Bird" presented by the open-air theater troupe Rakuichi Rakuza. On a revolving stage floating on water, performers sing and dance while spinning around. It is a grand adventure story about a poor yet hopeful brother and sister searching for the blue bird of happiness. Writing, directing, and music are handled by Gen Nagayama, and performances/live music are delivered by Kiriko Sano and Gen Nagayama. Performances start at 7:00 PM at all locations, with doors opening 30 minutes prior. Admission is free, and tipping with coins or bills wrapped in origami is welcome. All seats are unreserved, and the show goes on under a roof in rainy weather (canceled in severe rain or strong winds). Local guest performers also appear on a daily basis. The troupe sets up a special outdoor circular theater called "Rafflesia" nationwide; within this 360-degree open-air circular theater under the night sky, audiences can immerse themselves in the story's world alongside costumes and makeup that enhance the magical realm's charm in an open atmosphere. The stage is designed to float on a large pond and rotate, allowing for easy and enjoyable viewing from any seat. Another appealing aspect is that the surrounding scenery becomes a borrowed landscape due to the absence of roofs and walls.
