The "59th Sasebo Art Exhibition ART WAVE FROM THE WEST," held at Sasebo City Museum Shimanose Art Center, is an open-call art exhibition for people aged 15 and older who live, work, or attend school in the West Kyushu Sasebo Metropolitan Area. It solicits entries across various categories including pure arts (2D and 3D), applied arts, photography/video, and calligraphy, bringing together a wide range of artistic genres such as Western paintings, Japanese-style paintings, prints, sculptures, art objects, designs, crafts, handicrafts, photographs, videos, and calligraphy. Submitted works must meet certain size regulations, such as being within approximately 162 cm x 162 cm including framing (3D works must be within 100 cm length x 100 cm width x 200 cm height including bases/pedestals), but there are basically no restrictions on materials, shapes, or techniques, inviting works created with free creativity. During the exhibition period, it is open with no closing days from 10:00 to 18:00 (until 17:00 on the final day). Admission is free. Entry registrations are accepted from Saturday, August 22 to Sunday, August 30, 2026, with web registration also available. Submission of physical artwork is accepted from Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 13. The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 19, presenting awards including the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, and Special Jury Award. This art exhibition is expected to inspire and move many visitors as a venue for promoting community-rooted artistic activities and discovering and showcasing diverse talents.
