Held against the backdrop of Kumamoto Castle, "Kumamoto Castle Autumn Festival: Castle Lights" lights the path of hope and steps toward the future as part of recovery projects following the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake. During this period, the opening hours of the Kumamoto Castle Special Public Area are extended, and the illuminated castle floating in the night sky serves as a symbol of hope visible from across the city. Through lighting productions utilizing projection mapping, lasers, searchlights, and bamboo lanterns (take-akari), Kumamoto's nature, scenery, and deeply rooted culture are expressed through light, video, mist, and music, illuminating the past and future vision of Kumamoto Castle. Visitors can also enjoy unique autumn nights at Kumamoto Castle with events that introduce traditional Japanese culture and yabusame (horseback archery).
