About this event
Held in Kosa Town, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture, the "75th Ayu Festival" is an event marking the grand finale of summer festivals, set along the riverbed of the clear Midorikawa River. As a countermeasure against extreme heat in recent years and prioritizing visitor safety above all, it has been scheduled to take place in October. The festival offers a wide variety of activities for children and adults alike, including stage events and the "Ayu Catching by Hand" in which children can participate. Approximately 3,000 fireworks will be launched, illuminating the night sky. Food stalls and open-air booths will also line the venue, enlivening the festive atmosphere. Typically drawing a crowd of 40,000 people, it is an iconic seasonal tradition representing the local area.
