Metal Carving & Foil Stamping Workshop
Japanese name:彫金・箔押しワークショップ
📅 Sat, Aug 22, 2026 - Sun, Aug 23, 2026
About this event
A metal carving and foil stamping workshop allowing you to experience the techniques of Kawanabe Buddhist Altars, a traditional craft of Kagoshima, will be held at Sengan-en. This is a precious opportunity to receive direct guidance on the artisan techniques behind traditional crafts designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. You can experience the delicate, profound craftsmanship and its dignified beauty. The workshop offers a course to make a wind chime with metal carving, and a course to make a plate or chopsticks with foil stamping. Each experience has limited capacity and multiple time slots. Since craftspeople will also sell their works in front of the workshop space, visitors can easily drop by even if they do not have time for the hands-on session. The recommended age is 4th grade elementary school students and above, but children in 3rd grade or younger may participate with a guardian. A separate admission fee for Sengan-en is required to participate.
