About this event
Held at the Minamitobaru Event Plaza (opposite Shonan Hospital) in Okinawa City, the Momoyama Eisa Festival 2026 is an Eisa festival held to connect local bonds and traditional culture to the next generation. Rooted in Momoyama Street, which connects Minamitobaru and Yamauchi in Okinawa City, this festival is set against the backdrop of local nature and the warmth of the people, where many groups, mainly youth associations (Seinenkai), perform powerful Eisa dances. The dynamic beat of Eisa and the Okinawan culture that values human connections merge here, creating a place that connects hearts across generations. Highlights include the progression from a slow tempo that gradually speeds up, skillful bachi (drumstick) handling on the shime-daiko (snare drums), and gorgeous female dances using yotsutake (castanets). Original pieces such as "Minamitobaru Magiri" and the unique "Yuntanza" will also be performed. Admission is free.
