About this event
Nishihara Town was a fierce battleground during the Battle of Okinawa, resulting in the loss of many precious lives, property, cultural heritage, and nature. From that harrowing experience, the local residents hold a particularly strong desire for anti-war peace. This event is held with the aim of passing down the misery of war and the preciousness of peace to future generations. The Peace Materials Exhibition displays panel materials conveying the tragedy of the school evacuation ship 'Tsushima Maru'. In addition, the 'Peace Storytellers Archive Video Screening' showcases archive footage containing living testimonies of storytellers who survived those harsh wartime experiences. Through these exhibits and videos, visitors can engrave the cruelty of war and the value of peace in their hearts, deepening their thoughts on peace and considering what choices we who have not experienced war should make to never repeat such tragedies and keep the memories alive.
