About this event

Held on August 29 and 30, 2026, at the Tohoku Expressway Hiraizumi Smart IC Parking Lot, the 'World Heritage Festival in Hiraizumi' is an event themed around Hiraizumi's rich World Heritage. Starting with an opening ceremony and mochi toss, the event features an open lecture on 'Hiraizumi's World Heritage' by Mr. Hiroyuki Suzuki of the Hiraizumi Cultural Heritage Center, as well as performances of local traditional arts such as Takkoku no Kutsu Bishamon Kagura, Kamaishi Toramai Ozaki Seiyukai, and Kawanishi Dainenbutsu Kenbai. Additionally, a special public recording by FM Iwate will host guest Hiroaki Murakami for a talk show focused on Iwate Prefecture's World Heritage. Furthermore, a World Heritage quiz competition featuring quiz king Fuminori Ujihira of Rozan is scheduled, making it a participatory event where children and adults can learn while having fun. A free guided bus tour visiting candidate assets for the expansion of World Heritage Hiraizumi (advance reservation required) will also be operated. At the venue, attendees can enjoy workshops such as sutra copying, Jomon cord strap making and magatama bead crafting, turban shell accessory making, and metal casting experiences, along with educational programs including a World Heritage quiz rally, bingo frisbee strikeout, and World Heritage coloring pages. An exhibition of World Heritage artworks made from approximately 250,000 toy blocks is another major highlight. With an abundance of local gourmet food, kitchen car food trucks, and souvenir stalls, this festival lets visitors experience the charms of Hiraizumi with all five senses.
