About this event

Held in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture, 'Toyoma Takigi Noh' is a Noh performance dedicated at the Mori Butai Traditional Performing Arts Center. Inheriting the history of Noh theater cherished by Lord Date Masamune, founder of the Sendai Domain, and valued by successive feudal lords, 'Toyoma Noh' is a prefectural intangible folk cultural property passed down for over 230 years. As the sole inheritor of the Okura school since the Meiji Restoration, 'Toyoma Noh' features unique artistic forms and rituals, making it a precious cultural treasure in the Tohoku region. Surrounded by a bamboo grove, the 'Mori Butai' stage boasts high acoustic quality modeled after Japan's oldest Noh stage; Noh performed under the light of bonfires flickering in the dark creates a truly profound, mystical world (yugen). Held on the eve of the Toyoma Autumn Festival as an eve-of-festival event, visitors can thoroughly enjoy traditional performing arts in a magical atmosphere.
