Miyagi Zao Pear Festival

The "Miyagi Zao Pear Festival," a direct-sale event for pears—a specialty of Zao Town, Miyagi Prefecture—will be held. Pear producers will directly sell pears from Zao Town, which boasts the largest production volume in Miyagi Prefecture. From early-ripening varieties harvested in late August to late-ripening varieties in late October, you can enjoy various pears depending on the season. On the day of the event, sales will take place at a special venue at Zao Town Furusato Cultural Center (Gozain Hall), as well as direct-sales stands in front of pear farms within the town and at "Sancho Ichiba Minnano." Look for the "Nashi" (pear) banners as a guide. For every 1,000 yen spent, an entry ticket will be distributed for a chance to win "Toku-shu" grade pears from Zao Town, Togatta Onsen Ryokan Association accommodation vouchers, or an assortment of Zao Town specialty products. Since traffic congestion may occur on the roads around the venue on the day of the event, visitors are advised to arrive with plenty of time to spare. Caution against heatstroke is also necessary.
