About this event
This special exhibition focuses on the "Satake Version Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry Paintings," renowned as a supreme masterpiece of poetry portraits produced during the Kamakura period among the many artworks handed down through the 200,000-koku Satake clan of the Akita Domain. After the picture scrolls were cut apart and scattered to various collections in the Taisho era, after more than 100 years, a record 15 hanging scrolls have returned home to Akita to be showcased with sequential exhibit rotations. Furthermore, by concurrently displaying various copy scrolls, the exhibition examines the dissemination of the iconography of the Satake Version Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry Paintings in early modern times. The exhibition also features approximately 60 works and materials from the museum's collection, including Akita Ranga paintings and items associated with the Satake family, allowing visitors to appreciate close-up the charm of these timeless masterpieces.
