About this event

The '41st Kamoyama Kago Carrying Contest' will be held as the main feature of the 'Misato Hometown Festival Industry Fair', a major event that colors autumn in Misato Town. In this autumn tradition of Misato Town, participants shoulder palanquins (kago) crafted with ingenuity and race through the town. This year, the venue moves to Canoe Park Misato 'Canoel IMAI' for a fresh start. In the competitive division, teams of 4 or 5 people carry fertilizer bags on homemade palanquins (with a lighter load for women's teams) and compete for speed to the goal. The course has been shortened to approximately 800m, promising faster-paced developments. Meanwhile, in the costume (idea) division, teams compete on palanquin decorations and costume ideas without carrying fertilizer bags. In this division, participants walk a shortened course of approximately 400m, evaluated on originality and entertainment value. Both divisions welcome participation by various teams such as friends, schools, and companies, and decorating palanquins for PR is strongly encouraged. The entry fee is 3,000 yen per team (including insurance), and prize money is also prepared. Winners receive luxurious prizes, including 100,000 yen for both men's and women's competitive divisions and 150,000 yen for the Kago Carrying Grand Prize in the costume division. Registration is limited to the first 20 teams, and the deadline is Monday, September 7, 2026 (must arrive by this date). Please come and experience this autumn tradition of Misato Town.
