The "2026 Minato Oasis Festival in Sakata: Savor It All! Sakata Port SUMMER," held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, next to SAKATANTO in the Sakata Port Main Port Area, is an event aimed at promoting tourism and interaction among local residents centered around the port. Under the themes of "Learn," "Play," "Watch," "Eat," and "Shop," a variety of programs will be carried out for children and adults alike. In the Gourmet Zone, the "Sea-Class Gourmet of Minato Oasis Sakata" will be announced, and event-exclusive menus by surrounding shops will also appear. Dishes such as "Shonaihama Don," "Deluxe Seafood Poseidon," and "Chilled Kamatama Mentai Udon" are scheduled to be served. In the Quay Zone, an open house of "Working Ships" will take place, allowing visitors to tour the interiors of vessels such as the crane ship "Tenryu," fishery training ship "Chokaimaru," fishery experimental research vessel "Mogamimaru," fishery patrol research vessel "Gappo," and patrol boat "Benibana." Additionally, visitors can enjoy a Sakata Port cruise aboard "Mizuho," a port operations vessel of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (advance application required), and a rail bike riding experience provided by JR Freight Sakata Station. In the Experience & Event Zone, semaphore flag performances by the Sakata Sea Scouts and Sakata Coast Guard, water battle games, squid-shaped log fishing competitions, and port-related quizzes will be held. With touch pools to interact with marine creatures, port job exhibits, and lure crafting using driftwood also scheduled, it will be a day to fully experience the appeal of the port. The event runs from 10:00 to 15:00, and admission is free. It will proceed in light rain, but will be canceled in severe weather.
