About this event

"Meisui Summit in Nishikawa" is the 40th national convention hosted by the "National Liaison Council of Municipalities for Water Environment Conservation," comprised of municipalities selected for the 100 Exquisite and Well-Maintained Waters of Japan. Municipalities and stakeholders involved with famous waters nationwide gather to discuss water environment conservation and utilization as regional resources. Centered on local governments with water sources recognized in the Ministry of the Environment's "100 Exquisite and Well-Maintained Waters of Japan" and "100 Exquisite and Well-Maintained Waters of the Heisei Era," it serves as a nationwide platform for exchange and information dissemination with researchers, NPOs, and citizens. Based on themes reflecting local characteristics of the host region, it communicates the connection between water, people, and communities through keynote lectures, panel discussions, and exhibitions. Diverse initiatives such as water conservation activities, regional revitalization, and environmental education will be shared, creating a network for "protecting and utilizing water." Nishikawa Town in Yamagata Prefecture boasts the "Gassan Foot Springs," a blessing of nature filtered over 400 years from the perennial snow of the sacred Mount Gassan. This spring water enriches and delights people as drinking water, local craft beer, and cold plunge baths for saunas. Due to its mellow, ultra-soft water taste, it also achieved 4th place in the "Delicious Famous Water Category" of the 100 Exquisite Waters Selection General Election.
