About this event
Held on August 31, which corresponds to the 210th day from the beginning of spring (Risshun), this traditional village festival is held to calm wind disasters such as typhoons and pray for a bountiful harvest. Said to have continued since around the 6th year of Horeki (1755) in the Edo period, it is celebrated particularly vigorously among the village's festival events. Each household sets up Dengaku lanterns at the entrance, and piles of sand are placed along the path where the mikoshi (portable shrine) passes. Floats elaborately crafted by each district of Oya parade through the area, and fireworks launched into the night sky bring the festival to a close. In addition, the Tsunoda-style Oya Shishi-odori (Lion Dance) is performed as a dedicatory dance praying for an abundant harvest.
