About this event
The "107th Natsuigawa Floating Lantern and Fireworks Festival," where the solemn lights of floating lanterns illuminate the Natsui River, is held every year on August 20 on the Natsui Riverbed to hold memorial services for the newly deceased and all souls. It is said to have originated as a memorial service for children who died in water accidents and victims of construction work related to the Natsui River. After the Kawasegaki Buddhist memorial service, as dusk begins to fall, approximately 2,000 lanterns gently float down the Natsui River, accompanied by dedications of the Umegako Bon Bayashi, Jangara Nembutsu Dance, and Kasa Dance. Afterwards, approximately 3,000 fireworks light up the night sky, creating a magical scene. Visitors can enjoy the fireworks coloring the summer night sky while offering thoughts of repose to the soft light of the lanterns commemorating the departed. In conjunction with the event, traffic restrictions will be in place around Heishin Bridge, Kamada Bridge, and surrounding roads from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
