About this event
The Suzugaoka Hachiman Shrine Annual Grand Festival is a traditional festival held in Soma City. At the Yoimatsuri (eve festival), following the Shinto rituals, folk dances, guitar performances, Yasuki Bushi, and Awa Odori dances are dedicated. In addition, bamboo lanterns light up the shrine approach, and the shrine pavilions and grounds are illuminated. Along with the specialty 'Imozuimo' (taro soup), oden and sekihan (red bean rice) are served, and visitors can enjoy an exhibition of painted bamboo lanterns created by pupils of Hachiman Elementary School. At the Honmatsuri (main festival), after the Shinto rituals, traditional Japanese dance, kagura dance, and ocarina performances are dedicated, and 'Imozuimo' and sekihan continue to be provided. Throughout both the eve and main festival periods, the children's decorated bamboo lanterns are displayed along the corridor of the Kagura-den hall.
