About this event
Held in Miharu Town, Fukushima Prefecture, the "Miharu Daijingu Autumn Grand Festival" is a vibrant autumn festival where long lion dances (naga-shishimai) and parades of portable shrines (mikoshi) and festival floats (dashi) from seven districts march through the town streets. The long lion dance of Aramachi and Shinmachi appears as the vanguard for the mikoshi, and mikoshi and dashi from each district parade through the town. In particular, the long lion jostling forward at the head of the procession carries the meaning of warding off evil spirits, and its heroic appearance overwhelms onlookers. Led by the youth associations of each district, the carrying of the mikoshi creates an exhilarating atmosphere of unity with spectators through spirited chants and the sounds of flutes and drums. The festival serves as an important occasion to deepen the bonds within the community and unite the entire town of Miharu. In the evening, the kango (return procession of the deity) takes place, marking the most exciting climax of the festival. Miharu's usually tranquil and charming streetscapes are enveloped in the festival's vibrant energy on this special day, offering visitors a fresh and captivating appeal.
