About this event

Held as a certified project of the Tsuchiura City Collaborative Town Development Fund, the "Tsuchiura Sound Archive Exhibition 2026" is part of a project in which citizens collect fading sounds and preserve them as a digital archive. In addition to a comprehensive exhibition of past activities, this exhibition features hands-on interactive content such as "Spatial Audio VR, Sound Play Station, and Soundscape Live," as well as "Handmade Workshops." Visitors can experience a special and unique opportunity to feel the everyday sounds of Tsuchiura that they might usually overlook through 3D audio, interact and play with them, and listen to live performances. In the Tsuchiura Sound VR "Walking in Sound," collected sounds are arranged in space as particles, allowing an immersive experience of walking through sounds using a large screen and mouse control. At the Sound Play Station, visitors can assemble rhythms using Tsuchiura sounds, take on sound-guessing quizzes, and enjoy the "Tsuchiura Sound Map," where tapping a map plays sounds from the recording location. In the Soundscape Live, improvised performances utilizing sounds of Hobikisen (traditional sail-driven fishing boats), watermills, bells, and more will be showcased. At the concurrently held handmade workshops, participants can experience crafting handmade sparklers (senko-hanabi) and paper carton lanterns.
