Akeno Sunflower Festival

About this event

Held in the Miyayama district of Chikusei City, Ibaraki Prefecture (around Miyayama Furusato Fureai Park), the "Akeno Sunflower Festival" features double-flowered sunflowers, yellow and orange cosmos (sulphur cosmos), and Rikuzentakata sunflowers cultivated across vast fields of approximately 4.4 hectares against the backdrop of Mount Tsukuba. In particular, the double-flowered sunflowers cover one of the largest areas in Japan, and visitors can enjoy the spectacular sight of approximately 1 million sunflowers covering the entire area. During the event period, an event operations cooperation fee of 500 yen per vehicle is required at the main parking lot and Parking Lot 1 (Akeno Sports Ground). In addition, free shuttle buses run from the Akeno Branch Office and Akeno Community Center to the venue on Saturdays and Sundays only.
