About this event
This is an annual fire prevention ceremony held at Hosenji Temple of the Tendai Sect. Shugendo practitioners perform a ritual where they walk barefoot through blazing flames, and members of the public are free to participate once the fire has settled. Dharma talks by Yamabushi monks and Goma fire rituals are also conducted, offering a valuable opportunity to experience the local traditional culture. The heat of the flames, the chanting voices, and the mystical scene against the night sky create an emotional experience felt with all five senses. Information on accommodations in Ashikaga City and surrounding areas is provided for attendees coming from afar. Admission is free, and no tickets are required. If you wish to take part in the fire-walking ritual, please inquire with the on-site staff on the day of the event.
