Japanese name:樺崎八幡宮秋祭
📅 Sun, Oct 18, 2026
About this event
This is an autumn festival held at Kabasaki Hachimangu Shrine in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture. Kabasaki Hachimangu is known as the place where Ashikaga Yoshikane, the founder of Banna-ji Temple, passed away, and the gravestone reading "Mausoleum of Lord Ashikaga Yoshikane" stands beneath the floor of the main hall. The entire precinct is designated as a historic site, and the sacred cedar tree to the right of the main sanctuary is designated as a natural monument. As a result of archaeological excavations, the ruins were recognized as nationwide valuable remains of a medieval temple and designated as a National Historic Site. At the autumn festival, the Kabasaki Hachimangu Daidai Kagura (sacred Shinto dance and music) is dedicated by parishioners, and local food and game stalls are scheduled to open. The traditional kagura performance by parishioners is one of the highlights where you can feel the local history and culture.
