The Ruler of Japan Passes Through Sakura: What Toyotomi Hideyoshi Brought

In the late Sengoku period, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who had accomplished the unification of Japan, passed through present-day Sakura City on his way to Aizu to establish a new order in the Kanto region. Hideyoshi's passage served as a catalyst for road developments, laying the groundwork for the transportation network and post towns of the Edo period. Meanwhile, several castles, including Katsuyama Castle, were decommissioned. Through precious historical materials preserved in Sakura City, such as the "Kitsuregawa Family Documents," this exhibition explores the changes toward a new era brought by Hideyoshi, the ruler of Japan. This is a valuable opportunity to deeply learn about this historic turning point through historical documents from that era.
