At Ota Civic Hall, the musical 'Yamato Takeru - Ancient Hero Soaring Through Joshu' will be performed together with local citizens, welcoming former Takarazuka Revue top stars Akiho Mitsumi, Haruka Mei, and others. Kie Kojima, a former member of the Takarazuka Revue, serves as the scriptwriter, director, and instructor. This performance expresses the epic story of the ancient hero Yamato Takeru no Mikoto in a citizen-participatory format. Yamato Takeru is depicted in the Nihon Shoki and Kojiki as a handsome man skilled in battle. After subjugating the Kumaso and receiving the name 'Yamato Takeru,' he heads to subjugate the eastern provinces, experiencing the tragedy of losing his beloved wife Ototachibanahime along the way. The story depicts him pacifying Kozuke Province (present-day Gunma Prefecture) to Shimotsuke Province (present-day Tochigi Prefecture), and on his return journey from the eastern expedition, incurring the wrath of a deity at Mt. Ibuki, falling ill, and passing away on his way home. Legend also has it that after his death, his soul turned into a white swan and flew away. In this musical, performing the story of Yamato Takeru provides citizens with an opportunity to connect with local history and culture and share in the excitement. Performing alongside former Takarasiennes will surely be an unforgettable and special experience for both participants and the audience.
