About this event

Held at Sengen Shrine in the Arakawa Hino district of Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture, the "Sengen Shrine Spring Festival (Kagura)" features traditional Kagura ritual dance passed down since around the early Ansei era under the name "Shinmachi Tokumaru-ryu." The most defining characteristic of this Kagura is the Hobei ritual conducted by Shinto priests at both the beginning and the end of the Kagura performance. This is believed to retain traces of traditional miko-kagura, as this style is also referred to as "Daidai Miko Kagura." On the day of the event, several dances selected from the 18 repertories are dedicated, allowing visitors to experience the essence of community-rooted Kagura. The festival takes place every year on the second Sunday of April, running from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The venue is easily accessible, located about a 5-minute walk from Bushu-Hino Station on the Chichibu Railway. Parking is available, but space is limited, so the use of public transportation is recommended.
