About this event

According to the Higashimatsuyama City official website and the Saitama traditional culture media Buntama, the 50th Higashimatsuyama Folk Performing Arts Festival will be held in conjunction with the Japan Three-Day March. This festival provides a valuable opportunity for folk performing arts preservation groups within the city to showcase the fruits of their daily practice. On November 2 at the Yakyu Inari Shrine Kagura Hall, performances will feature the Shodai Matsuribayashi festival music, Mugiuchi-uta (wheat-threshing song), Musashi-ryu Higashimatsuyama Taiko drums, Godo Lion Dance, and the Kanaya Rice Cake Pounding Dance. On the following day, November 3, as part of the Japan Three-Day March Welcome Performance Stage, the Matsuba-cho Matsuribayashi and Yakyu-cho Matsuribayashi groups will perform on the west side of Higashimatsuyama City General Hall and at Pio Park (Yakyu-cho Plaza). Originating against the background of many folk performing arts having been lost before World War II, the festival began with the aim of protecting folk performing arts within the city and nurturing and passing them down to the next generation, marking its 50th edition this year. It is an event packed with highlights where visitors can experience local traditional culture.
