About this event
The Mizonuma Shishimai is a traditional event that has been handed down since ancient times in the Mizonuma district, embodying prayers for local safety, the warding off of evil spirits, and protection against epidemics. A lion dance is dedicated by three lions: the O-jishi (great lion), Naka-jishi (middle lion), and Me-jishi (female lion). After the dance dedication, participants who wish to do so can have a lion head placed over their heads as a prayer for good health and protection against illness. This lion dance is dedicated twice a year, in spring and autumn, at Mizonuma Hikawa Shrine, and is designated as an Intangible Cultural Property of Asaka City. The autumn event is scheduled for the first Sunday of October and, along with the Asaka Citizen Festival and community center festivals, is one of the important events that adds color to the local culture.
