About this event

At "akarito," a handmade candle and lifestyle shop in Tokigawa Town, Saitama Prefecture, the 2nd joint exhibition "Oishii Toki" featuring four young woodcrafters will be held. In Tokigawa Town, which has long flourished in forestry and woodworking, this exhibition bridges traditional satoyama culture with new sensibilities, focusing primarily on handcrafted wooden products designed for daily living. The theme "Oishii Toki" carries a double meaning combining daily life with "wood (ki)" and "time (toki)." In a modern era overflowing with inexpensive goods, the aim is to allow visitors to experience with all five senses the warmth of handcrafted wooden items and the richness of living surrounded by beloved tools that grow with time. In a space imbued with Tokigawa's rich nature, visitors can view unique works by the four woodcrafters while enjoying carefully selected takeout-style coffee, tea, and special food, spending a calm and pleasant time. A sensory experience made possible by akarito, which also operates a food and beverage business, is part of the appeal. Furthermore, this year's event will feature not only the display and sale of works but also a look into the production process, providing a rare opportunity to observe up close how a single piece of wood is transformed by artisans' hands into value-added craftwork that enriches daily life. The first exhibition held last year focused on tools related to food and dining, attracting around 200 visitors from both within and outside the town.
