About this event

"Asakusa Tori-no-Ichi 2026," held at Otori Shrine and Chokoku-ji Temple in Taito Ward, Tokyo, is a traditional event praying for business prosperity and good fortune. In 2026, it will be held twice: the First Rooster on Saturday, November 7, and the Second Rooster on Thursday, November 19, with no Third Rooster. On both days, it is held around the clock from 0:00 to 24:00, allowing visitors to experience the lively festival atmosphere. The biggest highlight of Tori-no-Ichi is the brightly decorated lucky rakes, which carry the meaning of raking in wealth and good fortune. Decorated with various auspicious symbols such as gold coins, beckoning cats, and the Seven Lucky Gods, the rakes range widely from small household items to large ones praying for prosperous business. When a rake is purchased, the shopkeepers perform a spirited ceremonial clapping (tejime) to pray for the buyer's good fortune. Many street stalls also line the surroundings of the venue, where you can enjoy traditional festival foods. The "Washi Mai" dance, performed wearing eagle masks, is also conducted three times each day to dedicate the shrine's local dance. Access is about a 9-minute walk from Iriya Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line.
