About this event
The Sumida River Tsunashiki Tournament 2026 is an event where residents of Taito Ward and Sumida Ward face off in a tug-of-war on Sakura-bashi Bridge spanning the Sumida River. The battle, waged through tug-of-war with residents of both wards staking their pride, evokes pride and affection for their respective wards. Each match is a best-of-three sets contest, and the team that wins 2 sets first claims victory. Once the match finishes, it becomes 'no side' (truce), and enlivening exchanges at the resident level is also an objective of the tournament. Sumida Ward is currently on a losing streak, drawing attention to this year's outcome. In case of rain, it is scheduled to be held at the gymnasium of Sumida Ward Koume Elementary School. It is organized by the Sumida River Tsunashiki Tournament Executive Committee and sponsored by Taito Ward and Sumida Ward. Participants are also being recruited.
