About this event
Formed in 2020 by Belgian tenor Tore Tom Denys, the seven-man vocal ensemble "Dionysos Now!" makes their first visit to Japan to perform 16th-century Venetian sacred and secular music entirely with voice. At the heart of the program are works by Adrian Willaert, a High Renaissance composer from their home country of Belgium who served as maestro di cappella at St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. He was the founder of the Venetian School and the figure who devised the archetype of its signature double chorus. In this performance, his polyphonic music will resonate like a "Cathedral of Sound," where the close interweaving and dialogue of ancient voices are sure to bring deep resonance and comfort to the hearts of modern audiences.
