'Hachioji Open Factory 2026' is an event where you can experience the allure of 'monozukuri' (craftsmanship and manufacturing) nurtured by Hachioji's rich nature, history, and culture. Once a year, creators in Hachioji open their doors, featuring everything from cutting-edge technology and master craftsmanship to delicious gourmet foods. Visitors can not only feel firsthand the artisans' techniques, the atmosphere of the workshops, the sounds of machinery, and the textures of materials, but also experience the joy of making things with their own hands. A diverse lineup of content for children and adults is available, ranging from craft workshops such as making keychains with precision screw processing machines, experiencing metalcraft with laser cutters, and accessory making, to trying temple carpenter techniques, dairy farming experiences like butter making and ornament making, and making mechanical 'swimming char (iwana)' automata. Furthermore, rich premium programs are offered, including a special order experience for wool shawls by Contemporary Master Craftsmen, a sake brewing experience at a craft sake brewery, and experiencing master joinery techniques involved in cultural property restoration. Through a wide variety of experiences provided by 35 participating businesses, you can discover a special day unique to Hachioji.
