About this event
The 1st "Tachikawa Eiraku Festival" will be held to celebrate 101 years since movie theaters first opened in Tachikawa, aiming to pass on film festival culture to future generations. It is a celebration to enjoy visual arts and the ambient sounds of the city more freely together—laughing, being surprised, and cheering aloud. The event features a screening of Buster Keaton's classic "Cops" accompanied by live benshi (silent film narration), along with selected short films, director talks, and a special talk reflecting on the history of movie theaters in Tachikawa. In addition, a workshop will be held to create "Flowers of Light" using paper and balloons to illuminate the dark venue after the show, which requires no extra fee or materials and can be taken home afterward. It promises to be a night where you can freely enjoy movies within the city, distinct from the regular cinema experience.
