About this event
The "17th National Historic Site Musashi Fuchu Kumano Shrine Kofun Festival" will be held at the Musashi Fuchu Kumano Shrine Kofun National Historic Site in Fuchu, Tokyo. This festival began with the goal of introducing the ancient burial mound, a local treasure, to more people and revitalizing the community. On the day of the event, there will be plenty of fun and attractive activities, including the illumination of the burial mound, a kofun concert, hands-on activity booths, and food stalls. Food stalls selling yakitori, imoni (taro and meat stew), cotton candy, and grilled dango dumplings will be open at the venue, and visitors can enjoy workshops such as making Kumajii accessories, making magatama beads, and viewing the coloring contest exhibition. Stage events will feature an opening ceremony, an awards ceremony for the coloring contest, a lighting ceremony for the illumination, as well as diverse performances by various acts including the Fuchu No. 5 Elementary School Dance Club, the Fuchu No. 4 Junior High School Japanese Drum Club, a live performance by Marikofun, Musashi Kokufu Taiko "Hibikikai", gagaku music and dance, shinobue (bamboo flute) playing, and Andean songs by CEREZA. In particular, the kofun illumination will be held for eight days from October 11 to October 18, during which the Kofun Exhibition Hall will have special nighttime openings. This festival offers an all-day experience for families and friends to enjoy while experiencing the history and culture of the ancient burial mound.
