📅 Sun, Sep 13, 2026 - Mon, Sep 14, 2026
About this event
The largest annual festival held every autumn at Kodaira Shinmei Shrine in Kodaira City, Tokyo. In 2026, it is scheduled to be held over two days on September 13 and 14. Shinmei Shrine enshrines Amaterasu Omikami as the primary deity alongside 16 deities across 12 shrines. The highlight of the annual grand festival is the Mikoshi Togyo (portable shrine procession), where the shrine's mikoshi parades through the local area, centered around the Gakuen Nishimachi neighborhood. The shrine grounds are lined with food and game stalls, buzzing with families enjoying the festive fair. Through collaboration with the International Friendship Association, international students and foreign residents also have opportunities to help carry the mikoshi, drawing attention as a venue for multicultural coexistence. It is a vibrant, beloved community festival, perfect for a weekend outing to rediscover the charm of the local area.
