About this event

Yokohama Civic Art Gallery will hold 'New Today's Artists 2026: Observation Point of Saturn's Rings' from Saturday, September 12, to Monday, October 5, 2026. This exhibition inherits the 'Today's Artists' exhibition that Yokohama Civic Art Gallery organized for 40 years since opening in 1964, introducing and reflecting upon contemporary expression. Under the theme 'Observation Point of Saturn's Rings,' this edition introduces three promising young artists: Sarina Sattapon, Taiki Yokote, and Rieko Tsuji. The exhibition overlays its theme with the phenomenon of how we sometimes lose sight of others, akin to the 'disappearance of Saturn's rings' when they become invisible from Earth depending on their periodic cycle. The works of the three artists highlight phenomena that we in modern times unconsciously turn our eyes away from, questioning our attitudes toward looking at others and society. Sarina Sattapon uses video installations with special filters to visualize isolation and disparities, encouraging thought about connections between individuals, others, and society. Through sculpture and video, Taiki Yokote uncovers the stories behind often-overlooked entities like dust and debris. Rieko Tsuji confronts the difficulty of mutual understanding through dialogue with diverse people, and her recent video featuring handmade plush toys reflects our modern state. Admission to this exhibition is free.
