About this event
The Nationally Designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property "Hayachine Take Kagura," handed down in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, will be specially performed at the Silk Road Dance Hall in Yokohama Chinatown to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Amina Collection and the 50th anniversary of Take Kagura's national designation. With a history of over 500 years, this kagura is rooted in faith in Mount Hayachine and is characterized by unique dances and music performed by Yamabushi (mountain ascetics). The elegant 7-beat dance of "Otsugunai Kagura," the valiant 5-beat dance of "Take Kagura," and the "Gongen Dance" praying to the lion head regarded as a temporary form of the deity will be presented. Amina Collection has maintained deep interest in Tohoku's folk performing arts since its founding and has continued exchanges with Take Kagura. This performance is deeply tied to Amina Collection's philosophy aiming at the succession and new dissemination of traditional culture, and audience members can feel the power and beauty possessed by Japanese traditional culture as well as people's sentiments through the dynamic performance. At the Silk Road Dance Hall, also popular as a venue for cross-cultural exchange, an emotional experience is expected at a distance where you can even feel the performers' breathing.
