The "Shonan Hiratsuka Fireworks Festival," a beloved summer tradition of Shonan, will be held at Hiratsuka Tamasaburo Fishing Port (New Port) on Friday, August 28, 2026. Celebrating its 74th edition this year, approximately 3,000 colorful fireworks—including gorgeous starmines and musical fireworks—will vividly illuminate the midsummer night sky against the backdrop of the Shonan sea. Along with the popular starmines every year, a music starmine is scheduled to be launched for the finale. Paid reserved seating is available at the viewing venue for a more comfortable experience. Free viewing is also possible on sandy beaches, such as the west side of the New Port. This fireworks festival began in 1951 as the Suga Summer Fireworks Festival organized by local residents, and has since been hosted by Hiratsuka City. The spectacular fireworks show lighting up the summer night sky brings inspiration and summer memories to all visitors.
