The "Sento Matsuri" (Thousand Lanterns Festival), offering a slow-paced way to enjoy the Niigata night, is an enchanting event where approximately 6,000 lanterns inscribed with messages are lined up along the shopping arcade. The illuminated scenery, offering a completely different atmosphere from usual, captivates visitors. The event features diverse activities including lantern-making workshops (from 10:00), a traditional fair (from 16:00), street stalls (from 12:00), food trucks (from 12:00), rental of traditional sea bream lanterns (Taiguruma) (from 18:30), "Go to the Shrine in Yukata" (from 16:00), an alley exploration stamp rally (13:00 to 19:00), and sticker giveaways (from 20:45). The lanterns are lit from 18:45 to 20:45, allowing visitors to stroll through the shopping arcade enveloped in magical light. It is an event where you can fully enjoy the long autumn evening while admiring the uniquely crafted lanterns made by local community members.
