About this event

Held in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, the 'Kanazawa Castle & Kenrokuen Grand Tea Ceremony' is a traditional cultural event where 12 groups across 7 schools of tea ceremony in Ishikawa Prefecture demonstrate their tea preparation (temae) on a daily rotating basis across 4 tea houses around Kenrokuen Garden. Selected new tea utensils crafted by leading artisanal craft masters will adorn the tea houses, allowing guests to experience the hospitality spirit of Kaga tea ceremony. It is a precious opportunity to experience once-in-a-lifetime (ichi-go ichi-e) hospitality in a castle town enveloped in autumn atmosphere. At each tea seating, visitors can enjoy diverse schools of tea ceremony including Sohen-ryu, Urasenke, Enshu-ryu, Senchado Shogetsu-ryu, Kofu Sencha Reishiki, Omotesenke, and Sowa-ryu. In particular, tea ceremonies held at venues with historical and cultural ambiance—such as Gyokusen-an inside Kanazawa Castle Park, Shoto-an (ryurei seating) inside the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and the Former Nakamura Residence of the Nakamura Memorial Museum—will deeply impress visitors. Tickets are available as 3-seat tickets, 2-seat tickets, and 1-seat tickets, in both advance and same-day sales. Admission to Kenrokuen Garden is free upon presenting a tea ceremony ticket.
