Across two days where Fukui's history and culture merge, the 'Ichijodani Culture Festival' will be held on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Special Historic Site Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins in Kidonouchicho, Fukui City. Set in Ichijodani, where the history of the once-prosperous Asakura clan breathes, this special event brings together diverse cultures and people under the slogan 'Once again, to a valley where culture gathers and people gather.' Centered around the Karamon Front Plaza, a variety of attractions utilizing the historical location are planned, and admission is free. A key highlight of the event is the historical experience event 'Departure Gate 2026 ~BEYOND THE GATE2026~', themed on the 'Kakan no Gi' coming-of-age ceremony for Ashikaga Yoshiaki in 1568 (Eiroku 11) with Asakura Yoshikage serving as his guardian. This is a gorgeous and solemn stage event that recreates the festive bustle of Ichijodani in modern times. Inspired by the rich ingredients and craft techniques gathered in Ichijodani during the Sengoku period, 'Valley Kitchen' and 'Valley Shop' feature a food area offering event-exclusive special menus and a market lined with Fukui's craftsmanship and traditional handicrafts. Furthermore, numerous contents allowing you to experience history with all five senses are prepared, such as ambient live music harmonizing with the beautiful gardens of the Asakura Residence Ruins, and 'Valley School (Workshops)' enjoyable for both adults and children. In addition, 'Sengoku Manju Tossing' to deliver gratitude and good fortune to all visitors and traditional mochi pounding using wooden mallets and mortars will also be conducted, allowing you to experience and enjoy the deliciousness unique to freshly made mochi on the spot. Please come and experience the history and the breath of new culture in Ichijodani during this pleasant autumn season.
