Enjumusubi Tree Planting Event @ Kofu

About this event

As part of the "Enjumusubi" regional revitalization project that starts with "planting trees", a tree-planting event will be held on abandoned vineyard land in Tsukahara-machi, Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. This event aims to foster "en" (bonds/connections) between nature and people, as well as among people. Based on the Buddhist philosophy of "engi" (dependent origination), the act of planting trees is viewed as a connection of life, providing participants with an opportunity to experience firsthand that nature and humans are interconnected. The planting adopts the "Miyawaki Method", known for regenerating disaster-resilient forests close to the original local vegetation. Supervised by Professor Shinichi Meguro of the International Center for Ecological Studies, participants will practice planting after receiving a specialized lecture. Detailed instructions on how to plant will be provided so that first-time planters can participate with peace of mind. Through this activity, the project aims to regenerate abandoned cultivated land into original forest, creating land that is resilient against disasters and where diverse forms of life circulate. Rice balls (omusubi) will also be prepared as souvenirs for participants.
