Uchino Hachiman Shrine Annual Festival

The annual festival of Uchino Hachiman Shrine held every year from September 14 to 15. This festival takes place at Uchino Hachiman Shrine, regarded as the tutelary deity of the Hokke sect Watanabe clan, with a tradition where clan members gather on the eve of the festival to chant 'Namu Myoho Renge Kyo.' On the festival day, brave dedication Sumo and brilliant Shishimai Kagura (lion dance) are dedicated. In particular, on the night of the 14th, an event called 'O-matsuya' is held by a gathering of Hokke sect believers, making it a festival richly reflecting local faith and traditional culture.
