About this event
Held in Kasagi-cho, Ena City, Gifu Prefecture, "Tsurugi no Mai" is a traditional dance performed in the open plaza in front of the shrine pavilion as an offering during the Sohara Shrine Annual Grand Festival. Designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Ena City, the highlight is the heroic scene where a dancer performs holding two real sacred swords in both hands. Performed to the accompaniment of flute and taiko drum music, this dance is unique and cannot be seen in other areas of Ena City. It begins with a scene where a man wears a lion head mask and builds up to a dramatic climax.
