About this event

The "Kitsunebi Matsuri" (Fox Fire Festival) is a special festival that becomes an ancient Shinto ritual once a year for a single night, when folklore passed down in Hida Furukawa comes alive in the pitch-black darkness, coloring the entire town with fantastical lights on an autumn night. The bride and groom, selected each year through a nationwide public application, dress up as foxes and parade through the streets of Furukawa, looking just like a scene from a fairy tale. Tourists can also easily transform into foxes and participate in the festival by getting "fox makeup" done. Local food stalls will also be set up at the festival, and enjoying Hida's local cuisine and drinks is one of the attractions. You can spend a heartwarming time savoring delicious dishes while feeling the autumn night breeze. Experience the fantastical night woven by the town of Hida Furukawa by becoming a "fox." On the day of the event, rituals including the Mikura Inari Shrine Annual Festival, the unveiling rickshaw, the celebration ceremony, the bridal procession, the closing ceremony, the Kitsunebi Marche, and street fox makeup will be held.
