This event brings together and exhibits Katsushika Hokusai's masterpieces, 'Hokusai Manga' and 'Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji,' utilizing high-definition digital imagery. 'Hokusai Manga' is Hokusai's representative art instruction manual consisting of 15 volumes in total, featuring over 3,000 illustrations ranging from people and animals to landscapes and imaginary creatures. Creative ideas that connect to modern anime and manga, such as panel layouts and depictions of continuous motion, can be seen throughout, and it had a profound impact on Europe at the time. 'Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji' is a monumental landscape print series depicting the magnificent appearance of Mount Fuji along with the people living and working around it. Among them, 'Under the Wave off Kanagawa' is globally known as 'The Great Wave' and made Hokusai's name widely recognized worldwide. In this exhibition, all 15 volumes of 'Hokusai Manga' and all 46 prints of 'Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji' are displayed together, and by projecting them onto large screens using high-definition digital images, you can observe even the texture of the paper and the printing techniques.
